We love our Designer’s Desktop series because it is a peek into the creative minds of our design team and showcases designs that they would love to see in print. These designs often focus on details that look great when letterpress printed or are the designer’s version of perfect design balance.
Today’s letterpress invitation design has a retro mid-century modern feel. The clean and minimal face of the card incorporates two clean all-caps fonts and is framed with simple lines … with just a hint of retro with the starburst details in the outer most frame. On the back of the card, the throwback pattern is created from the non-printed portions of the design. With the green areas of the pattern pressed into the paper, the white line pattern appears raised and creates a great texture.

This wedding invitation is what our design process is all about! Along with the help of our exclusive retailer, Posh Parties, this couple pulled details from different designs shown in our Custom Wedding Portfolio II to create a brand new design … one that is personalized to them and resulted in a truly elegant and beautiful wedding invitation suite. We love seeing creative minds at work and being part of that “a-ha moment” when everything falls into place and feels exactly right!
This design was first inspired by our Monterey wedding invitation suite, which includes a color-contrasting belly band that acts as a reveal for the names of the wedding couple or the wedding date. For this version, the couple selected a shimmering pyrite colored paper that hints of a graceful champagne color. Keeping things traditional, they then chose platinum foil on our double-thick natural white stock with platinum gilded edges. The platinum foil was used for their traditional wording as well as the framing details borrowed from our Hamilton wedding invitation suite.

In our Custom Wedding Portfolio II, we feature stand-out save the date cards at the start of the album. We are often asked what the corresponding invitation and response card would look like. Our Designer’s Desktop series is the perfect place to share these details with you!
One of those save the date cards is our Solage save the date, which incorporates a two-layer antique engraving frame and a space for your engagement photo. For the invitation, we use the same two-layer frame and instead of your engagement photo taking center stage, we replace it with your invitation wording. We kept the horizontal layout, which allows for the couples’ names to fall on the same line. The response card follows suit with a similar layout, but with a small shift in the frame detail to keep things interesting.
We love the way the vintage feel of the frame pairs with the traditional wedding invitation fonts and layout within it. The delicate balance not only makes a statement to your guests, but it also beautifully showcases the letterpress printing.
If you would love to see this design in print, contact us or one of our retailers and we would be more than happy to customize this design for you on your wedding day!
We’re sharing this custom design with you today to remind you of how well letterpress printing pairs with hand calligraphy. Not only do they both shout “wedding,” but when you work with us or one of our retailers and use the design process outlined in our Custom Wedding Portfolio II, we can turn hand calligraphy into a letterpress plate and print it on your wedding invitation suite!
If you plan to use a calligrapher for addressing your invitations, why not also have them write your names for your wedding invitation? It’s like creating a custom font! Take a peek at how this couple incorporated calligraphy into their design.
Using hand calligraphy for the most important details on your wedding invitation suite really makes it feel special and personalized. Wouldn’t you agree?!
