Store Spotlight – Paper Plane Paperie

When we first met Emily at Paper Plane Paperie, everything immediately clicked — we instantly loved working with her! Because of her her strong eye for design and detail, she has an amazing way of working with our Custom Wedding Portfolio II tools and inspiration to produce some of the most amazing designs! In fact, only a few short weeks after she received the album, Emily was on her way to being one of our top stores. This means that we have had plenty of time, working on her amazing orders, to get to know her and today we wanted to share a little bit about Emily with you.

First, here’s a look at her gorgeous space where she meets with lucky couples in the Newport Beach, California area:

What inspired you to open Paper Plane Paperie?
I have always been a very creative person, and during my wedding planning process in 2009, I fell in love with the customization process when it came to the invitations.  I wanted to use my creative talents to inspire other brides to use paper as a way to get their guests excited for a wedding or big party.  There is no better way to set the tone for an event than through a beautiful invitation suite.

What did you do in your life before Paper Plane Paperie?
I was a visual merchandiser for Hudson Jeans where I created window displays for large department stores all over the country.

When did you first realize that you had a passion for paper?
During my 2009 wedding planning process I really began to gain an understanding for the letterpress process and how the technique is used to create stunning invitations by hand, one invite at a time.  Soon after, I began taking letterpress classes and was completely hooked!

What is the Paper Plane Paperie design aesthetic?
Our personal aesthetic is coastal chic.  Since my shop is in Newport Beach, CA, anytime I can get my hands on something nautical, I go for it.

What inspires you?
Interior design … patterns and color.  I always look for ways that these things can translate onto paper.

What trends are you noticing/loving in wedding stationery?
Calligraphy tied in with classic text as part of the suite adds a nice touch. I am also loving custom wax seals right now!

What are the hottest trends or must haves for weddings in your area?
Tying in at least a few DIY projects has been popular for a while now, but is a lot of fun because it really personalizes the event.  Also, the color grey has replaced black in most cases which gives things a softer, more modern feel. Also, I recently went to a wedding with a ice cream sandwich bar. I thought it was a genius idea for a hot summer night!

See what we mean? Emily is the perfect mix of designer, friend and wedding consultant! What couple doesn’t want to WOW their guests from the first glimpse of correspondence about their big day? Emily gets that and has an amazing portfolio of work as a result.

Here’s a perfect example — this suite, designed for a couple getting married in Chicago this summer {just last weekend actually! Congratulations Roxane and Denis!} incorporates many of the key elements Emily describes as being on trend. Let’s take a closer look …

We love this fun take on our Marinwood trifold and invitation suite, using elements such as the lattice pattern and frame surrounding the key details on the first panel {both inspired by interior design} paired with beautiful hand calligraphy and illustrations by Holly Hollon that adds the perfect personal touch.

The striking design on the invitation, which includes their signature lattice pattern in robin’s egg letterpress ink, a seaglass frame and charcoal invitation wording, sets the tone perfectly for their August wedding.  Rounding out the suite is a coordinating response set with more personal calligraphic touches and a fresh wedgewood blue envelope liner.

If you’re in the Newport Beach, CA area and looking to create your own custom letterpress wedding invitations, you must plan a visit to the studio! If you want to see more of what inspires Emily, you can visit her blog, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter pages.

Client Customization – A Peachy Take on Marinwood

I can’t tell you how often I hear people in our industry talk about how hard it is to design their own stationery! When you are exposed to such gorgeous design and printing every single day, I am the first to admit that it can be a painfully slow process when it comes time to narrow down all of the amazing choices into a single card for yourself. However, this time around, when it came time to design {another!} baby announcement, it was much less daunting!

With the help of Dauphine Press designers Matt and Heather and my client services sidekick Tracy, I had the perfect team to help me pull this design together. Focusing on every detail from the color palette to the perfectly petite pattern behind the photograph and the ideal art for the first panel to the most fabulous fonts for my baby girl’s name, it came together in no time. I absolutely love the end result and I’m especially pleased with the way it complements big sister’s announcement that we created two years ago.

Right from the start, I knew that I wanted to go with the same trifold format as Chelsea’s announcement {baby number one}, since that worked so well the first time around. This format has proven itself to be a great fit for everything from a big announcement to a wedding details card packed with travel information. And, let’s not forget what a precious keepsake it makes with it’s small size and luxe print techniques.

Our Marinwood design has seen many variations since it was released two years ago – check out a few of our favorites here and here. Are you looking for the perfect announcement or save the date? Visit one of our exclusive retailers and share with them all the ways you would customize your very own trifold.

Real Dauphine Press Wedding – Kristen & Eliot

Today, we have a gorgeous real Dauphine Press wedding to share! You’ve already seen our post on Kristen & Eliot’s wedding stationery, ordered through our exclusive retailer Judy Paulen Designs, but today we’re showing you the full picture — wedding photos!

The client’s vision, along with the hard work and talent of their vendors {especially the amazing planning and design duo at Enjoy Events Co.}, was captured beautifully by Braedon Photography. We are loving all of the amazing details, from the gorgeous location, Beaulieu Garden in Rutherford, California, to the perfect blush touches in just the right places and the chevron-patterned, gold sequined linens. Absolutely gorgeous!

We adore this shot of the couple’s full wedding wardrobe. It paints the full picture and shows that coordinating pieces can have great impact. With our custom design process, you’re not forced to choose pieces that perfectly match. Instead, you can personalize each piece and modify elements to create your ideal suite. For instance, the lush florals appear on the first panel of their save the date trifold and backside of their response card and are balanced by the bold graphic patterns on the second panel of their save the date and the backside of their response card. The duplexed warmed white colored paper, custom blush ink color and shine from the pearl foil create a subtle, yet show stopping suite.

Store Spotlight – Magnificent Milestones

We know we’ve said it before, but one of the biggest perks of working at Dauphine Press are all of the amazing retailers we get to work with every day. Today’s Store Spotlight highlights one of our favorites, Magnificent Milestones in Chicago, and specifically owner Kara Gordon, who is one of the main reasons we make that statement so often. We love working with Kara and the custom designs she and her team send our way are top notch! Last month, Magnificent Milestones held a Dauphine Press trunk show so you can bet you’ll be seeing the results here on our blog — as soon as the suites are printed and the couples are wed, we will share them with you!

In the meantime, we wanted to introduce you to Kara so we asked her a few questions about her and her business:

1. The beautiful studio | 2. The team | 3. Samples for the trunk show | 4. Sweet treats from the trunk show | 5. Giveaways for the trunk show

What inspired you to open Magnificent Milestones?

After college, I quickly realized that the corporate world wasn’t the right fit for me. In my particular situation, my role was lacking creative freedom, excitement and … color. I started designing invitations on the side and in very little time, my focus was set on opening my own invitation studio. It has been a fun and colorful ride ever since.

What did you do in your life before Magnificent Milestones?
I worked in the marketing department of a large international law firm. The environment was far too serious for me. I designed invitations and ads for the firm. But –like I mentioned above– everything was black and white, and it was hard to get attorneys excited about their next speaking engagement. Working with brides and grooms is the complete opposite: you work with so many different styles & color palettes and their excitement is off the charts. I love it!

When did you first realize that you had a passion for paper?
I enjoyed making things with paper at a very young age. I went through phases of paper snowflakes and scrapbooking before entering the world of luxury wedding invitations.

What inspires you?
Literally everything. I try to look at everything in a different light: food at the grocery store, the ways things are displayed at a boutique, colors that I see on a walk around the neighborhood. Inspiration is in everything.

What trends are you noticing/loving in wedding stationery?
We are seeing a lot of gold, mixing of patterns, oversized invitations and calligraphy-like fonts, which just happen to be some of our favorites!

We hope you enjoyed meeting Kara! She is part of our extended team and responsible for so many of the great custom designs we share with you through our blog. Real Dauphine {Baby Announcement}

We’re back today with details and images of Chelsea’s birth announcement. As we mentioned in our last post, the inspiration for this piece came from our Marinwood save the date. With it’s gorgeous first panel, second panel fit for a photo and the last panel for details, it is the perfect format for a baby announcement.

Not wanting a typical pink baby announcement (or nursery, or 1st Birthday party!), Kendra chose our buttercup ink along with a custom coral color (which is coming soon to our official color palette, called papaya) to transform the save the date in to a sweet baby announcement. Printed on our natural white letterpress stock and paired with a black and white photograph of Chelsea, this customization was complete!
