San Francisco Ballet Silver Celebration

This year, Dauphine Design had the honor of working with the San Francisco Ballet to design the event invitations and materials for their opening night gala celebrating creative director Helgi Tomasson‘s silver anniversary.

Early on in the design process, a stark palette of white, silver and gunmetal gray was established. Later at our presentation of several concepts to Helgi and his wife Marlene, he personally selected a minimalist design in which the words “Silver Celebration” were printed in a whisper of varnish on the white cover of the invitation. We incorporated silver foil on the metallic vellum flysheet inside the invitation, as well as on the belly band {which, when removed, revealed the letterpress “Silver Celebration” on the cover}. Metallic elements were also introduced in the envelope liners, the silver response envelopes and the die cut menus which sat inside each dinner plate at the event.

The event was also a tribute to Helgi’s entire family. Cabernet from their private vineyard was poured, photos taken by his son Erik were used throughout the invitations, and his wife Marlene was honored with a Lew Christensen medal which recognizes extraordinary service to the San Francisco Ballet.

The Silver Celebration was, by all accounts, an affair to remember. We are proud to have been a part of the festivities!

Duke Basketball: Designing for the Winning Team

A few months back in the middle of a blizzard, our friend and 3/50 Project founder Cinda Baxter sent us a wonderful new client, Stacey Motley of The Paper Café in Raleigh, North Carolina. Stacey had a project she needed to be designed and printed on the fly for Duke University’s basketball team.

Stacey chose to die cut the invitation in the shape of a basketball. The piece was letterpress printed on double thick Crane Lettra. We did a blind hit of a the basketball texture into the background of the card which gave it added dimension.

Today we send our congratulations out to the Blue Devils on their 2010 NCAA win and also to the Butler Bulldogs for an amazing game last night!

Signature Sasha

Back in 2000 when I was a one-gal show, I picked up the phone and called an amazing wedding planner in Napa named Sasha Souza. Her work was vibrant, inspiring, inventive. I simply wanted to see if she would refer her clients to me for invitations. I had no idea the adventure I was signing up for by simply reaching out.

Over the years, Sasha has become a dear friend and cherished colleague who continually inspires our creative team at Dauphine Press. She’s one of a kind and a true creative genius. We’re honored to be featured in her new book, Signature Sasha that’s making a huge splash in the weddings arena.

Below are a few of our favorite custom letterpress wedding invitation shots from the Signature Sasha book. We are delighted to be included in the pages of this gorgeous book and so proud of our friend and colleague for having such a brilliant talent for events that it merited this wonderful book.
