Dauphine Press in BRIDES Magazine!

This past winter we were thrilled to work with the editorial team at  BRIDES magazine! We created a fresh customization of our Yountville design for their Red & Orange “Pick Your Palette” feature in the June/July 2014 issue. The new variation of this crisp, modern design features our cantaloupe letterpress ink for the large monogram, which is complemented by the custom red ink used for the wording and vibrant edge painting. The bright poppy orange envelope with custom red return address and monogram is the perfect finishing touch!

Get the Look – Natural Details For Letterpress Stationery

There is something about this photograph of Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Details magazine that really has us inspired. We love the wonderfully natural color palette, the layers of texture and the slick car. It’s the perfect inspiration for our gentleman’s edition of our Get the Look series.

The palette we’re dreaming up would include espresso letterpress ink printed on a thick duplexed card of London fog gray. For the embellishments, we love the addition of a gold painted edge and smart indigo envelope liner. Apply this recipe to any of our existing designs to create a dashing design for any event.

{Carissa} You might be seeing a trend here and a bit of personality showing through! Carissa loves a bright pop of color, whether it’s her favorite embellishment of an edged invitation or your wedding color palette!

{Abbey} A decorative paper wrap in any of our exclusive patterns {available in any color!} is Abbey’s favorite way to add a gorgeous final touch to your wedding suite!

{Kristie} Colored envelopes can really make a statement since they’re the first thing your guests see! Kristie loves an envelope with a pop of color or in a stunning metallic!

Dauphine Press Loves {wedding color palette}

We are kicking off a new series today! As a team we always find ourselves talking about our favorite things – blog posts we have read, images and articles in magazines and of course wedding and stationery details! We will be sharing some of our favorites right here on our blog. It will give you a little peek into the team creating your wedding stationery and hopefully provide a bit of inspiration for your custom wedding stationery!

Color can have a huge impact on an event and we understand that having the perfect color, the perfect match, is very important to brides and grooms. It’s also something that as designers and printers, we can suggest and create the perfect color for any wedding invitation. So, today we’re each sharing our (current!) favorite wedding color palette:

Dauphine Press Loves - Wedding Color Palette

{Abbey} Navy blue is a classic choice and a great alternative to black that really allows the gorgeous pops of coral to shine. When translating this color palette into wedding stationery, Abbey would add elements of parchment to soften the overall look. (image: 12)

{Kendra} Soothing pool blue alongside a fresh lemon yellow creates a fun and romantic wedding palette, ideal for an outdoor event. How perfect would this combination be on a variation of our Calistoga suite? (image: 1)

{Kristie} The combination of black and gold is sure to get guests excited about your wedding day! The look is complete when paired with touches of a champagne color as shown on our Stinson wedding invitation suite. (image: 123)

{Carissa} It’s all about your favorite bright, bold pop of color with Carissa’s favorite wedding color palette! Carissa suggests a design like our Carneros suite with black letterpress ink for the copy, design touches in a light gray or blind hit and a perfect pop of color like a painted edge! (image: 12)

Cloverdale Letterpress Invitation – New Design Customization

Are you starting to see a theme here? Can you see how looking at a few of the design details that make up every wedding invitation, and swapping them out for your favorite combination, results in a brand new design — one that is unique to you and your event?!

Today’s new design, our Cloverdale customization, includes a graphic detail that we love using and we’re very excited to show on a wedding invitation and in a tonal color palette. On the original, the pool blue colored border appears to be a solid block of color from a distance, but if you look up close, you’ll see that it’s so much more than that! Backing up a little … we often get requests for large, solid areas of color, and the truth is, with letterpress that just isn’t the ideal fit. Our design team found a solution in our Cloverdale design. Using the fine cross-hatch pattern in the borders means that the end result is a nice, even area of color. Plus, the added benefit is that fine detail. Everyone we know picks up a letterpress printed card to take a closer look and feel the impression — what a treat to find that fun little detail!

Dauphine Press Wedding Blog Post - CLOVERDALE

Where the original inspiration suite is casual and modern, using the cross-hatch pattern on the new customization created an elegantly subtle look that we always see couples loving for their invitation. How fun would it be to pair these two, in the same color palette, as part of a full wedding stationery wardrobe with the inspiration design as the save the date card and the new customization as the invitation. Ooh! And, please let us dream up fun new ways to use this detail on menu cards, place cards, etc.!

OK, enough dreaming! Back to this new design and the few changes we made to create a brand new design:

Ink Palette: Changing the ink palette on any design is one of the most notable ways to personalize your suite. Simply choose colors from our letterpress inks that match the palette you are using in the rest of your decor and you’re on your way to a suite that is uniquely yours. With our Cloverdale customization, we switched the original pool blue and charcoal gray to cantaloupe and tobacco. Both versions use a neutral and a pastel to really make the most of this design. That pastel is key to making sure the large areas of color in the cross-hatch border act as a frame for the most important information on your wedding invitation.

Motifs, Borders and Patterns: On this new design, the same border and pattern were used, just in a different way! This is a great tip! If you love a design, but want to make it your own, just think about how your favorite details can be used in a different way. Taking the same details and putting them on the larger card have completely transformed this design. Changing the format of the card, from horizontal to vertical, also instantly tells a new story.

Fonts: As you know from our previous posts, fonts and typefaces can be a very personal choice. We have a large selection to choose from, so you can really have fun with this element. We have fonts that range from casual to very formal. The fonts on this new design customization lean towards formal with the bulk of the copy in an all-caps font {Garamond} and the highlighted text in a traditional script {Carolyna}.

Beyond our custom elements, you can also add on any number of embellishments. You can see all of the details available in our online Design Library or in-person when you visit one of our Exclusive Retailers. Our Cloverdale customization features a combination of embellishments to complete this look:

Colored Paper: To achieve the tonal look we wanted to create with this design, the first choice was our pretty peony paper stock to compliment the cantaloupe letterpress ink. We have a large collection of colored papers in our Design Library for you to choose from. And, if you don’t see a shade that matches your palette perfectly, just ask us, we can always complete a search for the best match! Tip: we do always struggle to use the word “perfect” when it comes to color since we feel that very often “complementary” colors can be much more beautiful than an exact match. Don’t worry though, along with our Exclusive Retailers, we’re happy to help you select the perfect combination!

Luxe Board Duplexing: Just like last week’s Broadmoor design, we chose a duplexing option for the colored paper on this design. Cloverdale features our Luxe Board Duplexing, which is our thickest option, and includes two sheets of the peony paper adhered to a super thick board in the middle. Note that the board in the center is white and will show a layering effect at the edge of your card. Some clients love that look and others want to take advantage of that nice thick surface and add our next embellishment …

Painted Edges: Painted edges were the finishing touch for this new design customization. Painted in our Tobacco ink to match the letterpress printed copy, this new design is complete! Remember, we have shades to match all of our letterpress ink colors!

We created our Custom Wedding Portfolio process with every unique couple in mind. We, ourselves, would expect to personalize our wedding invitation suite, so we wanted to create a process that allowed every bride and groom to do the same. It’s also designed to be fun! We encourage you to scour our website {don’t forget to check out our Search By Style feature} and meet with the experts at your local Dauphine Press retailer to get their guidance and input. Once you do, you’ll be well on your way to creating your very own custom letterpress wedding invitations!
