Client Customization – Lovely Lavender Letterpress Invitation

We love the way the subtle lavender touches add dimension to this Vreeland wedding suite customization. This invitation utilizes, what we call in letterpress printing, a “fill.” Looking at the etched floral motif, you can see that there is a solid layer of lavender ink printed beneath it, which gives it a hint of color and differentiates it from the blind printed lattice in the background.

Starting with that lovely touch on the main invitation card, this suite includes many other pretty layers that will be sure to have guests excited for the big day. The neutral color palette, elegant shimmery pocket folder, the different uses of the signature etched floral motif and the luxe belly band wrap up the entire invitation into one pretty package.

A.M. Inspiration {fashion + freetime}

Over the years, I have had so much fun designing birthday party invitations for my two daughters. I love taking their ideas and interests to create the party theme. The girls are so enthusiastic about their parties that the moment one comes to a close, they are already dreaming up next year’s party!

My oldest daughter, Madeleine, has always loved fashion and art, so we came up with the idea of a paper doll invite for one of her recent Birthday parties. The invitation rolled up and was tied with an over-sized ribbon … it came complete with a tag that invited each party guest for a limo ride to Sweet and Sassy, where they got their hair and make-up done, got dressed up and took part in a runway show.

The paper doll invitation was designed so that each guest received a doll and two outfits with various accessories. They were printed with marine ink on white paper so that the girls could color and create their own unique fashions for their paper doll. So, once the party was over and they had some free time, they could occupy themselves with their very own creations! What little girl doesn’t dream of being a fashion designer at least once in their lifetime!?

Before and After – Custom Occidental Invitation Suite

We have a fun visual for you this week. We wanted to show you a side-by-side comparison of an invitation from our Custom Wedding Portfolio and the custom design it inspired.

Our original Occidental letterpress wedding invitation suite is regal and formal. The large format card incorporates a design that highlights the thick cotton paper with a tactile, all-over letterpress pattern in a neutral color. Balancing the subtle pattern is a stately monogram and delicate script in a deep blue.

Wanting to emphasize the detail in the lace-like pattern, we reconstructed it as a decorative border on the custom design (right). Printing the new border in a deep jewel tone turns it into a focal point and frames the details of your special day.

Turning the background pattern into a border also allowed us to print this new design in one ink color. This impacts your budget {in a positive way} and also keeps this suite feeling traditional.

A.M. Inspiration {pattern and color}

We all have our favorite creative times during the day, and for me, it’s early in the morning while most of the world – well, mostly my children – remain quiet. With our new “A.M. Inspiration” series, I will be posting images of what currently has me inspired, the exciting new ideas I am dreaming up on those quiet mornings and I’ll share my thoughts on how to translate that inspiration into stationery design and wedding invitations.

We are kicking off the series with a very special wedding invitation suite. This is a sneak preview of one of our new Dauphine Press design samples! We will reveal the full suite in a future post, but I first wanted to share two of my favorite details of this romantic and elegant design – pattern and color.

3.18-AM-INSPIRATION

One of my main sources of inspiration is pattern and home fashion/decor (probably a result from my formative creative years at Martha Stewart Living). Using pattern in my designs has always been a trademark of mine. I also love creating borders and motifs out of vintage drawings/etchings. I typically pull them apart and put them back together to create a new design. At the same time, I try to build the perfect balance of color when layering patterns and borders like you see here with the lavender damask pattern and vintage caramel frame on this new invitation sample.

Speaking of color, this lavender and caramel letterpress combination is another perfect example of “traditional with a twist” that we talked about in a recent blog post. The “twist” in the creation of this color palette is the use of caramel for the most important verbiage on each piece. Overall it results in a soft, romantic feel with a warm neutral used in place of traditional black. The fresh look with the caramel against the lavender gives your guests a little peek into your attention to detail and will have them anticipating all of the other twists you have in store for them the day of the wedding!

Client Customization – Perot {World Traveler, Social}

Our custom stationery is not only meant for brides and grooms-to-be. This client customization features a slight variation of our World Traveler wedding stationery suite. We love that Sarah and Ross chose such a fitting invitation for The Farnborough Air Show by showcasing a background map and airplane motif for their international event. The contrasting letterpress printed ink colors, metal against robin’s egg, really allow for the colors to pop.
