We all have our favorite creative times during the day, and for me, it’s early in the morning while most of the world – well, mostly my children – remain quiet. With our new “A.M. Inspiration” series, I will be posting images of what currently has me inspired, the exciting new ideas I am dreaming up on those quiet mornings and I’ll share my thoughts on how to translate that inspiration into stationery design and wedding invitations.
We are kicking off the series with a very special wedding invitation suite. This is a sneak preview of one of our new Dauphine Press design samples! We will reveal the full suite in a future post, but I first wanted to share two of my favorite details of this romantic and elegant design – pattern and color.
One of my main sources of inspiration is pattern and home fashion/decor (probably a result from my formative creative years at Martha Stewart Living). Using pattern in my designs has always been a trademark of mine. I also love creating borders and motifs out of vintage drawings/etchings. I typically pull them apart and put them back together to create a new design. At the same time, I try to build the perfect balance of color when layering patterns and borders like you see here with the lavender damask pattern and vintage caramel frame on this new invitation sample.
Speaking of color, this lavender and caramel letterpress combination is another perfect example of “traditional with a twist” that we talked about in a recent blog post. The “twist” in the creation of this color palette is the use of caramel for the most important verbiage on each piece. Overall it results in a soft, romantic feel with a warm neutral used in place of traditional black. The fresh look with the caramel against the lavender gives your guests a little peek into your attention to detail and will have them anticipating all of the other twists you have in store for them the day of the wedding!
Armfuls of peonies emerge on all sides of a cropped cartouche to create a breathtaking first impression for guests receiving our Peony letterpress wedding invitation. Unwrapping this delicately bundled package reveals layer after layer of heavenly details!
It’s hard to choose which aspect of the suite you love most with its overwhelmingly French feel, striking patterns, clever menu card and sumptuous palette! Lucky for you, you don’t have to choose. Our design team has perfected the art of layering details that result in a perfectly unique wedding invitation for each bride and groom with whom we work. A picture is worth 1,000 words – take a peek at the inspiration behind this suite:

Using our Fairfield invitation pattern as their inspiration, the couple behind today’s Client Customization created a design that is the epitome of “traditional with a twist”. Our Fairfield pattern is set as a foil border detail, framing a classic save the date design with the client-created monogram and script font. The “twist” this couple designed – along with their local Dauphine Press retailer Carolyn at The Write Touch in Jacksonville, Florida – is a layer of pale pink letterpress ink (our shell) under the gold foil border. We love the dimension the printed solid creates under the foil stamped border!
What is the “twist” you’re looking to add to your wedding and invitation design? Bring your inspiration to a Dauphine Press retailer and work with our team to create your custom stationery that is sure to be just as gorgeous as this foiled beauty!

Today’s client customization is simply stunning! Lauren and Alexander worked with our retailer Elizabeth Grace to create their version of our Larkspur wedding invitation suite. Layering the suite with two different colors of foil (pearl and a custom rose gold!) and traditional black letterpress resulted in a lovely traditional invitation for this couple. Using the pearl foil for all of the patterns creates a beautiful backdrop for the rose gold foil frames and black letterpress printed wording. We’re in love with the results!
Creating a custom design can be as simple as changing the color palette to your chosen wedding colors. Want to see one of our classic designs in your palette? Contact your local Dauphine Press retailer to transform your favorite design into your custom invitation.

We are sharing a very special Suite Spotlight with you today. This sweet set of baby stationery was created for a family we have had the pleasure of working with for many years – from bridal showers, wedding invitations, personal stationery and now, baby announcements. As usual, the client worked with our design team and our Custom Wedding Portfolio II program and selected all of their favorite elements to create a perfectly custom stationery suite.
The final suite included baby shower invitations, thank you notes and the baby announcement all featuring sketches of vintage hot air balloons. We love how the color palette varied for each piece, but still coordinated perfectly to tell the story. For the shower pieces, the color palette was chosen with mom in mind too and featured both pink and blue along with a gorgeous neutral gray. For the thank you notes and announcement, a softer palette was chosen since baby was the focus. The mix of fonts coordinated perfectly with the vintage theme and were used to highlight the most important details.
Are you expecting a new little bundle this year? We would love the opportunity to create custom stationery for you and your little one. Visit any of our retailers to get started on your very own custom design.
