Client Customization – Classic Romance

Our retailer, The Social Type, helped this bride and groom create a classically romantic wedding invitation suite with {in our opinion} the perfect amount of decorative embellishments.

The design on the main invitation incorporates a very traditional look with a Varnish letterpress printed floral motif in each corner framing the classic mix of script and sans serif fonts. The extra touch here is that those restrained florals on the front of the card meander onto the back of the extra-thick, duplexed card in an overall floral pattern. What a great way to make a design statement on a usually-unused  portion of an invitation card. Another unexpected detail is a tear-off response card with those flowing florals again stretching over both ends of the cards.

Extra-thick duplexed cardstock, subtle Varnish for your favorite decorative motif, creating an all-over pattern on the back of the card, a fun perforated response card … the perfect combination for creating a classically romantic wedding invitation suite. With this much attention to detail, the wedding day is sure to be one that guests will not soon forget.

Are you ready to create your unforgettable wedding invitation suite? We would love to help you create a custom design for your wedding day that incorporates the decorative details that you love most.

Client Customization – Balancing Bold + Subtle On A Wedding Suite

Creating an elegant design is as easy as finding the perfect balance of subtle and bold. We love the look on this custom design from our exclusive retailer Katie & Co. Taking the traditional monogram and wreath frame and increasing the size is a bold move. But, keeping things light with our varnish ink balances this design out absolutely perfectly!

We love the modern touch of the varnish chevron pattern behind the letterpress ink on the response card as well. Weddings combine two individuals, two families, two lifestyles that are often different, but complementary. That is what we love about this design – the balance mirrors a perfect union!

Suite Spotlight – Carneros Letterpress Wedding Invitation

Today we want to put the spotlight on one of our most popular designs – Carneros. Carneros has seen many customizations from real brides and grooms, but its timeless design is always present, no matter how our couples customize it.

Two of the main highlights on this design are the painted edges in Sunshine and the Dauphine Press exclusive envelope liner in a coordinating Sunshine chevron pattern. Swapping out these two elements means that the core of the design — the traditional letterpress monogram in our Varnish ink and modern typefaces — is still strong and present, but the suite as a whole still has a big impact and will suit your unique event.

With our recent updates to our Design Library and custom elements, the possibilities really are endless for this piece. Our expanded edge painting palette means you now have 58 colors to choose from, not to mention the same number of options for liner colors in any of our patterns!

You may recall that Carneros was also the subject of our style shoot from earlier this year {here is the behind the scenes look at the shoot}. Below are even more amazing shots of this suite.

Customize Your Suite with Varnish Ink

After falling in love with blind hits (designs impressed into the paper using no ink), we got to thinking that a light tonal effect might give a bit more pop to our letterpress printed art while maintaining that soft and elegant look that our brides often look for.

While developing our Vizcaya invitation design, we decided to create something new—our Varnish ink, which offers a whisper of color and takes a tonal effect on any color paper. After its introduction in our Coral line last year we’ve seen bride’s using it in many of our other invitation designs with stunning results.

Very versatile Varnish works great for large, bold designs, but can add just enough detail to images that might be too delicate for a blind hit. We love watching new pieces come off the presses using this technique. Keep them coming!

San Francisco Ballet Silver Celebration

This year, Dauphine Design had the honor of working with the San Francisco Ballet to design the event invitations and materials for their opening night gala celebrating creative director Helgi Tomasson‘s silver anniversary.

Early on in the design process, a stark palette of white, silver and gunmetal gray was established. Later at our presentation of several concepts to Helgi and his wife Marlene, he personally selected a minimalist design in which the words “Silver Celebration” were printed in a whisper of varnish on the white cover of the invitation. We incorporated silver foil on the metallic vellum flysheet inside the invitation, as well as on the belly band {which, when removed, revealed the letterpress “Silver Celebration” on the cover}. Metallic elements were also introduced in the envelope liners, the silver response envelopes and the die cut menus which sat inside each dinner plate at the event.

The event was also a tribute to Helgi’s entire family. Cabernet from their private vineyard was poured, photos taken by his son Erik were used throughout the invitations, and his wife Marlene was honored with a Lew Christensen medal which recognizes extraordinary service to the San Francisco Ballet.

The Silver Celebration was, by all accounts, an affair to remember. We are proud to have been a part of the festivities!
